Times higher education riferisce di un report  sul rischio per le università inglesi di perdere quel personal touch che costituisce una caratteristica centrale per la loro identità,  reputazione e  fondmentale scopo come istituzioni di insegnamento. Così il rapporto riconosce che “Proximity of staff to students, teaching methods centred on the idea of learning as a partnership, and students receiving personal attention from staff are all qualities “intimately associated” with the reputation of the sector and the standard of teaching it provides..”  C’è il rischio - dichiara un esperto - di non potersi più aspettare che il docente possa conoscere e chiamare per nome i propri studenti.
